Branimir Medić

Partner & Architect,
de Architekten Cie., Amsterdam
Branimir Medić graduated in 1987 from the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Zagreb and obtained his Master of Excellence in Architecture at the Berlage Institute in Amsterdam in 1992. He worked with Kees Christiaanse Architects & Planners and UN Studio.
In 1995, together with Pero Puljiz, he founded the practice Medić + Puljiz in collaboration with de Architekten Cie. In 1998, both became partners within de Architekten Cie. which is one of the longest standing Dutch architectural offices with roots dating back to the post-war period. Cie. Croatia, based in Zagreb, was established in 2004, followed by Cie. Asia in Shanghai, in 2006.
Branimir Medić focuses on complex urban and public commissions in the Netherlands and abroad. His work is rooted in a strong modernist tradition, marked by structuralist principles and above all a contextual approach. According to him, architecture emerges in dialogue with its site, its history, and its social significance. In recent years, he has placed particular emphasis on circularity, sustainability, and the role of the architect as engineer. Medić sees architecture not only as a spatial expression but also as a technical and social foundation that must continuously adapt to changing uses and evolving urban challenges.
The selected projects are theEDGE West office building in Amsterdam, the Mark residential complexes in Utrecht, Justus in Amsterdam and Duet in Nijmegen. Abroad, projects such as the Dadong Arts Centre in Taiwan, mixed use building Center Bundek in Zagreb, Masterplan Florenc in Prague and the Magok MICE complex in South Korea have been successfully completed.
